CAREER COUNSELING TRAINING WORKSHOP PESHAWAR
Career Counseling Training and workshop was conducted by Eduvision-Educational Services on July 4, 2018 at Shelton’s Razindor Hotel Peshawar. Student Counselors of AKHSS Chitral Muhammad Jalaluddin and Kuragh Ms. Samina Mehmood attended the program along with other participant from different institutions of the country. Principals, counselors and teachers representing institutions like University of Peshawar, Army Burn Hall College Abbotabad, GHQ Rawalpindi, representative from various institutions in Punjab, Sindh and KP and professionals like professors, Doctors, serving Army Colonels and majors, Directors of educational institutions, school heads and entrepreneurs to name a few, were participants of the Level-1 of Career Counseling Training Workshop organized by Eduvision-A pioneer organization in career counseling in Pakistan. Eduvision (www.eduvision.edu.pk) is an organization having expertise in career counseling and conducts seminars, trainings, workshops, psychometric tests etc.
The rigorous training and workshop started at 9 am and concluded at 7 pm. After ceremonial recitations, the first module of the program was conducted by Prof. Syed Muhammad Abbas, Chairman Advisory Council, Eduvision on the topic “Qadara Fahada”, a quranic notion meaning “God has created destiny and showed the path to it”. The speaker’s session discussed the uniqueness of human beings and the boundaries an individual can touch on the basis of his/her unique potentials and abilities. He bridged the concept of destiny and fortune to personal efforts and accomplishment. His session gave a new perspective to guide students according to their capabilities, interests and abilities. The second module of the program conducted by Khansa Almas, Assistant Counselor Eduvision, discussed basic terminologies, concepts and theme required to understand the broader field of career counseling. Concepts and themes like Career, occupation, interests, abilities, Personality traits, aptitude, knowledge vs widom, degrees, diploma, fellowship, IQ, EQ, vocational training etc were explored in her session. The third module was conducted by Sohaib Khan, Program manager Eduvision, on the topic of “Education and Counseling in Pakistan”. The speaker shared insightful understanding on the education system in pakistan, facilities of technical and vocational institutions in Pakistan and some loopholes in the system. He also discussed about governing bodies, accreditation institutions and ranking of institutions. He further discussed about developments in higher education and available fields of studies in Pakistan. In the last segment, he explored the profession of career counseling in Pakistan and its scope along with the vision of eduvision.
The fourth module of the program, encompassing the theme “Counseling and Counselor” was conducted by Mr. Yousuf Almas, CEO Eduvision. The speaker glorified the profession by coining new urdu translation to the word counselor as “Murshid” instead of the word “Musheer”. Discussing the nobility of the profession he traced the historical and religious dimension of the profession. His thoughtful session infused a new rigor in the participants to remain committed to the profession with more enthusiasm. The contents of his module explored areas like counseling motives, counseling goals, activities, types and trends in counseling. He also shared about counseling challenges, ethics and future challenges. In the second part of the module, career counseling was focused and the contents touched the areas of career counseling stages, counselors skills, competence and qualities. This module was so interesting that even three hours continuous session increased the interests of the participants with the passage of each minute.
The Next module was conducted by Khansa Almas on the topic of Goals of Life-unleash potentials. The next module was again conducted by Yousuf Almas, CEO of the organization on the topic “Human Behaviour and Career”. The contents of this module included, Personality Theories, Islamic perspective on personality development, contribution of Shah Wali Ullah about human behavior and personality.
The seventh module was again convened by Sohaib Khan on the topic of “counseling Methodologies”. He covered the topic like Assessment, types of psychometric tests and shortcomings of various tests. The last module on “Effective Counseling Session” was conducted by Yousuf Almas. By going through these modules, level-I of the career counseling training and workshop was concluded at 7 pm, followed by a photo session. The management of eduvision also announced to conduct the level-II of the training in the upcoming months to fulfill the organization’s target of training 10000 counselors in pakistan, establish career counseling cells in 500 schools and colleges, creating Career Walls in 2000 schools and colleges and producing Career guides in 5000 schools of Pakistan in the next five years.
Student counselors of AKHSS Chitral and Kuragh not only actively participated in various activities, group works and discussions in the program but also acquired understanding about various perspectives of counseling, which will pave the way to develop counselor’s skill in a better way, which ultimately help the students in a more informed manner.
A booklet containing contents of all the modules of the training were given to all participants for future reference. Participants were also awarded with a certificate and a complementary book titled “Career Planning Guide” produced by the publication desk of eduvision.
