Inspectors in the organizational structure of FIA work with Assistant Directors to investigate cases and help the prosecution teams with evidence to prove the cases against the accused. Federal Public Service Commission hires the Inspectors for FIA. The vacant positions are advertised by FPSC in leading English and Urdu newspapers.
FIA has dedicated wings to deal with crimes of different natures like cyber, immigration, anti-corruption, Intellectual property, harassment, counter-terrorism, and Interpol. The trained FIA Inspectors will be posted to those wings where there are vacant positions. These Inspectors have Sub Inspectors and Constables at their disposal. They are guided by the Assistant Directors and superiors about different tasks and with the help of subordinates they achieve their desired goal.
Application process:
The applications are submitted online to FPSC after paying a challan of PKR 300/- to any National Bank branch or State Bank of Pakistan before the deadline for application submission.
Open Merit and Quota Seats:
FIA is a federal institution, so it should have representation from all the federating units i.e. provinces. FPSC advertises the seats of Inspector FIA against the quota of respective provinces. The top-scoring candidates are inducted purely on merit irrespective of their domicile. Women and Minority quota seats are also advertised depending upon the availability of seats.
Minimum Qualification required for FIA Inspector:
Applicants should possess a minimum of 14 years of qualification whether a B.A or BS recognized by HEC.
Physical standards for FIA Inspector:
The minimum physical standards for male and female candidates are as below:
- For Male, Height: 5’-6” and Chest: 32”-331/2”
- For Female, Height: 5’-2”
Minimum and Maximum Age Limit:
The applicant should be 22-28 years of age and there is a five-year age relaxation available after this maximum age.
Test Composition & Hiring Process:
The hiring of FIA Inspectors involves a competitive process where thousands of applicants are competing for some dozen posts. This hiring involves three stages of filtering the candidates. The nature of the test changes in three different stages of hiring.
The first phase of hiring FIA Inspectors:
Applicants are evaluated through an MCQS-based screening test. This screening test has questions from different subjects including English, Everyday Science, Basic Mathematics, Current Affairs, Islamic Studies, Pakistan Studies, PECA 2016, and FIA Acts.
Second phase:
In the second phase, ten top-scoring candidates against one seat of FIA Inspector are evaluated through a descriptive test. These descriptive tests for FIA Inspectors are used to evaluate a candidate’s knowledge and understanding of local and international current affairs. The precis and comprehension skills are tested through Urdu and English Essay writing.
The final stage of hiring FIA Inspectors:
In the final stage, five candidates against one vacant seat are evaluated by a panel of interviewers. The interview is the assessment of a candidate’s personality and suitability for a particular job. The nature of questions changes from personal to academic. The opinion of the candidate about the different national and international events is also assessed. The Psychologist present in the interview also analyzes the personality of the applicant.

Inspectors of FIA are paid a salary according to the BPS 16 pay scale. They also have some additional allowances like an FIA allowance, a Monthly Investigation allowance, and an Anti-organized crime allowance along with other allowances.
