International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a very important language proficiency test. It has a significant impact on your applications for studies or work visas in English speaking countries. Your permanent residency in such countries may also greatly depends upon your IELTS. You must know when, how, and where to go for this test in Pakistan. Keeping up to date with the right information will make it easier for you to fulfil your procedural requirements.
ORGANIZATIONS THAT CONDUCT IELTS IN PAKISTAN
There are two organizations that conduct the IELTS in Pakistan. These are,
- British Council
- IDP
IELTS With British Council
British Council Dates and Procedures
The British council offers IELTS at 17 locations (On Paper), and 7 locations (on computer) in Pakistan. Tests are scheduled several times in a month at different testing centers. All the IELTS formats are offered. These includes,
- IELTS UKVI
- IELTS Life Skills
- IELTS Academic
- IELTS General Training
Test Schedule and Date Selection
British council conducts the listening, reading, and writing tests at the same date. Your speaking test will typically be conducted on a different date within a bracket of 1 week.
Listening, reading, and writing tests are conducted with no breaks in between. As for your speaking test, an email will be sent to you about two days prior to your speaking test date.
There are two sessions at each date. The first session is usually between 9 am to 12 pm. Then the afternoon slots are usually between 1 pm to 4 pm.
Registration through British Council
You can register for the IELTS from the British Council website. You need to first select the type of IELTS you wish to give. Then you will be further directed to a page where you can see which dates, locations, and modes of testing (paper or digital testing) you can have. There you can register for the slot most suitable for you.
IELTS Results
For the on paper test, results are announced approximately 13 days after the test.
For the on computer test, the British council announces the results in 3 to 5 days after your test.
IELTS with IDP
IDP is another reputable organization that conducts the IELTS at over 2000 locations in 50 countries across the world. IDP is known because of the comfort and ease it provides for taking the IELTS through digital means. The IDP website also provides access to guidance materials and tips for IELTS preparations.
The IDP also offers the 4 types of IELTS tests. These are
- IELTS Academic
- IELTS General Training
- IELTS for UKVI
- IELTS Life Skills
Test Schedule and Date Selection
IDP also provides ease for any kind of disabilities that an applicant may report. Enlarged print test papers, word processor, lip reading services, extra time, and other facilities for people with disabilities are asked at the time of booking.
IDP is also similar to British council. The reading, writing, and listening tests are taken on the same date with no breaks. The listening test can pe taken a week prior, or later than the other three section.
IELTS Results
IDP also announces the report after 13 days of taking the test for IELTS on paper.
For IELTS on computer, the results are announced within 1 to 5 days.
Registration Through IDP
To book your IELTS with IDP go their website. On the website, you first select country (Pakistan). Then a drop down of 18 cities will be provided in the next section. Choose the city of your convenience. Then you can choose your module and select any facility you may need from the disabilities section.
You will then be directed to a list of dates, venues, and times. You can choose as per your liking.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR IELTS BOOKING
To book your IELTS, make sure that yu have your passport and identity documents. Without these documents you will not be able to book your IELTS. You should also carry these documents with you on the test dates.
ONE SKILL RETAKE
IELTS has also announced the one skill retake option. If you have good enough band scores in the other sections, but those in one of the sections are not good, you can opt for the one skill retake as well. Both British Council and IDP offer one skill retake options.
For one skill retake, the format will be the same as the format of each section in the IELTS. However, you will receive a separate report for the one skill retake test. This repor will have your original test scores as well as those after the one skill retake. You can choose to use your original scores as well.
Before you book for one skill retake,
- You must have received the result form for your recent IELTS test
- You must check if your intended organization or country is accepting the one skill retake option.
