Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) has announced that the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi will establish its first-ever International campus in Abu Dhabi, with the formation of IIT Abu Dhabi. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) and IIT Delhi in the presence of the Minister of Education (MOE) of India.
The MoU signing ceremony was held in Abu Dhabi during the visit of the Indian Prime Minister, The president of UAE Sheikh Zayed Bin Al Nahyan also graced the ceremony.
The first session of IIT Abu Dhabi will commence in January 2024. Undergraduate, Master and Ph. D programs will be offered in diverse fields which include Energy and Sustainability, Mathematics and Computing, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Engineering, and other disciplines of engineering, sciences and humanities.
IIT Abu Dhabi will collaborate with top institutes of UAE like Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, Khalifa University, New York University Abu Dhabi, Technology Innovation Institute, and Hub71 to produce a new academic landscape in research and innovation and startup ecosystem.
Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are one of the leading science and technology institutes of the world with contributions in the field of research & development (R&D). It has been ranked among the top 50 institutions of the world in engineering & technology. According to QS World University Ranking, it has been placed at 30th rank in global employability in 2022.
Sarah Musallam, the Minister of State for Early Education and chairman of the Federal Agency for Early Education, has reaffirmed to transform the education sector on the lines of international standards and stated that this MoU is a milestone towards achieving the goal. She stated that the UAE is committed to fostering world-class education and recent developments are the practical manifestations of national strategy and vision.
She stated that the pivotal point of focusing on such initiatives is to develop indigenous talent in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) that will help make the country increasingly independent in Science and technology. It will also help to make a global impact in the R&D area.
It has been observed back from some time that the UAE is continuously and committedly focusing on the promotion of education on world class level and the main concern is in the fields of engineering and technology. UAE is acting to stand among the technologically advancing countries. In this regard, several steps have been taken including recruitment of educators from advanced countries, increased funding for the educational sector, and granting of scholarships to students. Several revolutionary steps have been taken for the modernization of early education institutes as well as higher education institutions.
