Classes for the academic session 2011-12 will commence on Jan 2, NED university registrar Prof Javed Aziz Khan added.Giving details of the admission process which began a couple of days ago with the sale of university prospectus, the registrar said that the prospectuses which contained an admission form were available at the National Bank and the Habib Metropolitan Bank branches at the university for Rs1,700.
He said that if a student wanted to apply for another category, they would have to purchase another form which would cost them and additional Rs300.
He said that students seeking admissions to the university were required to submit their forms along with the required documents in the university's admission cell up to Sept 28.
He said that students would have to obtain at least 40 per cent marks in the admissions test to become eligible for admissions.
The two-hour test would be held between 10am and 12noon on the campus and its results would be posted on the university's website within half an hour, he added.
He said that 1,928 admissions would be offered for the academic session-2011-12 in 23 different departments of the university included electrical, mechanical, civil, telecommunication, electronics, architecture and planning, petroleum, chemical, metallurgical, construction engineering, textile, industrial and manufacturing, computer and information system, computer science and information technology, polymer and petrochemical, software engineering, medical engineering, bio-engineering and food engineering department.
Answering a question about the department in which most students would be willing to get admissions, Prof Aziz said that though the trend was changing with each passing year, most students in the outgoing year were interested in getting admission to the telecommunication department while the most sought-after department in the ensuing academic session might be the electrical department.
The university has planned an open day for successful candidates and their parents on Oct 10 for consultation with faculty members and visit to different departments, he added. Dawn
