Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) in its recent meeting finalized the dates for Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test MDCAT 2023.MDCAT 2023 will be conducted on August 27, 2023. This was decided in a meeting held today at PMDC. Last year's syllabus will be followed and provincial admitting universities will conduct MDCAT.
The Pakistan Medical & Dental Council held its 2nd Council meeting today in Islamabad. The meeting was chaired by President PM&DC Dr.Rizwan Taj. During the meeting, the Council discussed matters related to National Registration Exam, and Medical Dental Admission Examination (MDCAT) followed by other matters.
The Council taking up the most important agenda Related to MDCAT decided and proposed to hold the exam on 27th August 2023. The Council decided that the syllabus of the MDCAT will remain the same as last year's exam. The Council directed all provincial secretaries to start preparing for the said exam. The decision was made keeping in view the larger interest of students.
Last year, almost 204259 Students appeared in exams. According to estimates this year 210000 students are likely to appear in the exams making the system more transparent and merit-based public sector Medical Universities from all four provinces and ICT will again test the exams as per the provincial curriculum. The Council emphasized that, before exams, all stakeholders will be taken on board, I.e., public medical universities' examination departments, to ensure the secrecy of exams.
The MDCAT paper difficult index will also be taken into consideration for ease of students without compromising merit this year to ensure that all provinces conduct exams without any trouble to students. It was decided that NUMS shall be the admitting university responsible for admissions in all armed forces-administered medical /dental colleges /institutes. NUMS admission test shall be considered at par with the national MDCAT to be applicable only for admission in all armed forces administered medical /dental colleges.
The Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT) is required for admission to MBBS and BDS in all Government and Private Medical & Dental colleges of the country. Foreign Nationals applying for Pakistan Technical Assistance Program (PTAP) and overseas Pakistanis are also required to pass the MDCAT. Previously MDCAT was conducted on the national level but last year, it is conducted by provincial admitting universities including UHS, DOW University of health sciences, and Khyber Medical University. This year, MDCAT will also be conducted on the provincial level.

PMDC officials also confirmed that the following merit formula shall be applicable for MDCAT 2023.
- Matric: 10%
- FSc: 40%
- MDCAT: 50%
