Government of the Punjab has decided to privatize 30 thousand primary schools in the province. The Government will save 1500 billion rupees annually by privatizing these schools. The government will run only high and higher secondary schools. The decision is receiving severe criticism from the teaching community.
It is decided to offer a golden handshake to 150 thousand teachers of more than 30 thousand primary government schools, while the same schools will be run on public-private partnership by spending 25 billion. The government will run high and higher secondary schools only. The number of these schools will be up to five thousand.
The government schools up to the primary level will be privatized in a phased manner by 2025, while the teachers will be released from the department after paying a lump sum of 500 to 1,000 monthly salaries under the Golden Shake Hand.
On the other hand, the teachers' organizations have announced to start a protest movement against the privatization of schools from today, a joint action committee consisting of all the teachers' organizations has been established for demonstrations and sit-ins. From today, teachers will perform teaching duties by tying black bands on their arms.
According to the fixed rates, the fees of the children studying in the school will be paid by the Government of Punjab
How to Apply for School Ownership in Punjab
The schools will be handed over to the youth under the age of 40 years. Three colleagues can run a primary school from the government to teach children.
- At least one of the three fellows is required to have a master's degree of sixteen years of study; the remaining two are allowed to graduate.
- One of the applicants must be a graduate of Natural Sciences, Information Technology, or Computer Sciences.
- A minimum of three years of teaching experience of one of the colleagues.
