Students often sent a lot of queries about admission in the Punjab Board. These queries are related to the admission in the annual as well as supplementary examination. Punjab Boards has announced the results of matric. Those students who have either failed any subject or want to improve their marks in matric should apply for 2nd annual / supplementary examination. This blog answers all the questions related to the supplementary examination of the Punjab Board.
Fresh Candidates in 2nd annual/supplementary Examination:
As per the rules of Punjab Board, those candidates who have not submitted the admission form along the fees for annual examination, will not be dealt as a “Fresh Candidate” in the supplementary examination.
Supplementary Exam of Part I or 9th class:
There will be no supplementary exam for Part I of matriculation in the 9th class.
Private Candidates in the supplementary exam:
Candidates who are applying for admission as Private Candidates can either attempt Part I alone or Both Part & II simultaneously.
What if a student is unable to continue his regular studies in Part II:
If a student is unable to continue his studies in Part II of the matric despite studying as a regular candidate in Part I, should not lose hope. The Boards rules of Punjab Boards allow him to take admission in Part II as a Private candidate.
What if the admission forms of a student in Part I or II are not sent?
If a school is unable to send the admission forms of the candidates studying in Part I, they will be promoted to Part II of the matriculation. The admission will be sent based on attendance in Part II as a “Composite” case. In case of low attendance in Part II, he will be detained, and his admission will be sent in the next supplementary exam.
Migration from one Examination Boards to another in Punjab:
Any candidate who has participated in Part I in any Boards of Punjab can participate in the Part II or supplementary examination in any other Boards as per rules of the Punjab Board. This facility will be available for one time during the academic year and a student can migrate from one Boards to another for the supplementary exams if he is failed in all the subjects.
For how many years, result of Part I will be considered valid:
Result of the student who has participated in Part I of the matric will only be valid for two years, if he has not participated in Part II in the next year.
What is the minimum percentage required to pass a subject in Punjab Board:
A student should score at least 33% i.e. 33 out of 100, if he wants to pass a subject in Punjab Board.
Practical examination in the P Board:
There will be separate exams for theory and practical. Usually, the practical examination is scheduled after the completion of theory exams.
Rules for passing an exam in the Punjab Board:
- A student will be declared pass or fail in a particular subject if the total marks of Part I and Part II combined are equal to or more than the passing marks.
- If a student is declared fail in maximum two subjects, he will be dealt as a compartment case.
- If a student is declared fail in more than two subjects, he will be declared fail in the Part I or II depending upon the subjects. There are three chances to improve the result in case of “Compartment.” In this case, a student must appear in both part I and Part II at the same time.
- Even if a student appears in one Part and scores passing equal to both Part II and Part I, he/she will not be declared as a pass candidate in both subject.
What is the merit for Grace Marks in Punjab Board:
No grace marks will be awarded in Part I of the matriculation. A student will be given grace marks to pass the exams of Part I and II combined after the Part II of the matriculation and they are equal to one percent of the total marks obtained.
What if a student does not want to take Grace marks?
If a student does not wants to take the grace marks, he should submit an affidavit attested by the head of an educational Institute before the last date of next admissions for examination. The affisavit should affirm that the candidates should be declared fail in all those subjects in which he is awarded grace marks. Also, he has not taken admission in any college based on these marks and is not employes anywhere based on this result. Furthermore, he will not demand this result in the future in whch he is awarded grace marks. Based on this declaration, the candidate will be declared fail in the exams and allowed to take part in the examination, if he has any chances left im case of compartment as discussed above.
Unfair means Cases in Punjab Board:
Those candidates who are declared ineligible in Part I for use of unfair means in the examination for one or more years can take part in the next examination as “Composite” i.e. they can apply for both Part I and Part II at the same time. If a student is found guilty of using Unfair means in the examination, his case will be dealt as per laws enforced at that time.
Improvement and its effect on Grace Marks:
Students can improve their results after two years of passing the Part II examination in one chance. He can only improve marks in only those subjects in which he has already passed the secondary examination. It is the choice of the student to improve the marks in any number of subjects or Part I, Part II or both Part combined. He/ she will be awarded the same marks if they are not improved. If a student is declared pass based on grace marks, he should get at least 33% marks in that subject. Otherwise, “Marks not Improved” will be written on the result card and the previous number will be written on the result card. Such candidate will not be given grace marks and is not eligible for any position or scholarship.
What if a student remains absent despite applying for supplementary exam?
If a student fails to appear in an examination for improvement of marks, his chance to improve results will remain intact only if he applies within two years. Those candidates who do not attempt the Part II after Part I can also apply for both parts at the same time. Such candidates will not be given any chance for improvement of marks.
Change of Boards in case of Improvement:
A candidate can attempt examination in same Boards for improvement of marks in which he has passed the secondary school examination earlier.
What is the procedure of cancellation of result after Part I?
A regular student should inform the Boards about cancellation of his result within 30 days of the declaration of result. A private candidate can inform the Boards at time of applying for admission. The registration of the candidate will remain intact and not get cancelled.
Improvement case of O&A level students:
Candidates who want to improve their results after attempting the Additional subjects as per the Boards rules can improve but only within two years just after attempting the examination. Moreover, such candidates will not be given Grace Marks.
