Governor Masood Kausar was the chief guest on the occasion. Out of 750 students 650 were awarded Degree of B.Sc Engineering, 100 were awarded degree of M.Sc Engineering while four were awarded Ph.D degrees. 11 students were awarded gold medals by the Vice Chancellor of UET Imtiaz Gilani for their distinctions in their respective fields.
The gold medalists included Mir Eitiezaz Abbas (Electrical Engineering), Hazrat Bilal (Mining Engineering), Muhammad Fahad Khan (Mechanical Engineering), Khawar Naeem (Industrial Engineering), Farrukh Shehzad (Chemical Engineering), Muhammad Umar (Civil Engineering), Aurangzeb (Computer Systems Engineering), Kausar Mehmood (BS Computer Science), Muhammad Qasim Rauf (Electronic Engineering), Syed Zahid Shah (Computer Software Engineering) and Maria Rehman (Telecommunication Engineering).
In his speech Governor Masood Kausar congratulated the graduated engineers and advised them to play active role in country's development. He said universities should produce graduates which ultimately work to boost economic activities in the country as well as bringing positive changes in the life of the common man.
Later while talking to media the Governor appreciated provincial government's step for announcing negotiations with Taliban but added that talks would only be fruitful if militants lay down their weapons.
Earlier, addressing the students Vice Chancellor of UET Imtiaz Gillani said with lack of funds and facilities his varsity never compromised on quality of education and improved the standard of the education.
VC said university was conducting researches on areas of which would be helpful in economic uplift of the country. He explained that UET engineers were working to facilitate agriculturists with modern techniques of farming through their researches in agricultural engineering.
He said a separate centre of earthquake engineering was also established in the varsity.
