The academic Council of University of Sargodha has decided to end the BA/BSc 2 years program and introduce new Associate degree programs as instructed by Higher Education Commission, HEC, Islamabad. The new Associate degree program will be initiated in all of the affiliated colleges of University of Sargodha.
The Higher Education Commission, HEC, Islamabad has instructed all universities to end the 2 years BA/BSc program and start a new Associate Degree program. The new associate degree program is aimed at providing the skilled based education to the students which is in accordance with the market requirements. The associate degree program is initiated to equip the students with basic skills so that they can get a job, and to address the issue of joblessness. But in a strange move, the University of Sargodha and some other universities include University of the Punjab, have decided to continue to the old syllabus of BA/BSc system, and just rename the degree as associate degree program. This has made many of wonder, what purpose this degree will serve, if only the name is changed.
