NTS IE is for the students of Pre-Engineering group. NAT-IE is accepted for admission to Bacehlor programs in Engineering and also for admissions to other programs.
Many top Engineering Universities like COMSATS, FAST, Institute of Space Technology accept NAT-IE for admission to their engineering programs.
The result of NAT is valid for ONE YEAR.
ENGINEERING MERIT ON NAT-IE BASIS
In most Engineering universities, which accept NAT-IE, merit is close to 75-80%. Hence, for better chances of admission, it is advisable to target 80 Marks in NAT-IE.
FAST accepts all those who have more than 80 marks in NTS. Similarly, merit in COMSATS for engineering programs (except software engineering) is close to 77%. Also merit in IST for engineering programs is 81%.
So, it would be safe if you scored more than 80 marks in NAT-IE.

BEST STRATEGY for Securing Admission
As NTS is conducted frequently, it is advisable to appear in NTS at least 3 times, to improve your marks. Even if you are a student with 90% marks, it is advised to appear at least twice in NTS so that you can score maximum.
So, it would be the best strategy to appear in NTS in December/January for the first time when you are in FSc Part-II so that you have enough time to prepare again if you cannot score the required marks and have the time limit to appear in NTS at least two more times before admission deadlines of major universities.
